As a long-time supporter of the Building Our Skills – Making Fenestration, Glass and Glazing a Career of Choice initiative, we’re delighted to be supporting this week’s first ever Fenestration Careers Festival.
Alongside other leading industry businesses and organisations, we’ll be attending two events at Oakwell Stadium in Barnsley and at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, helping to showcase the 50+ different career options which exist in this industry to students and teachers from across South Yorkshire and Greater Manchester.
With more than 500 students already registered across the two days, we’re expecting lots of interest – and preparing for the kinds of questions which only teenagers ask!
Ahead of the event, Building Our Skills has organised over 100 individual roles in fenestration into eleven ‘career families’ – from production, R&D, and operations to finance, marketing and HR. The aim is to tackle the skills shortage head on by showing young people who are getting close to world of work the variety of rewarding and long term career paths which are open to them.
Our popular and hugely experienced Academy Training Manager Darren Burford will be looking to inspire them with some insight into the technology and innovation behind our systems, the sustainable message which underpins aluminium, and the exciting opportunities available now to ambitious youngsters.
He says: “I’m passionate about bringing new skills into the industry and in upskilling the workforce we already have. I’ve trained hundreds of fabricators and installers in how to work with our systems over the years and I’d like to think I’ll meet some future Academy trainees this week.”
