A recently screened episode of Channel 5’s Build Your Dream Home in the Country show featured a couple who were converting a 20th livestock barn into a luxurious family home – with the help of Unique Window Systems and AluK.
By the end of the 60-minute episode, the windowless concrete and metal structure had undergone a remarkable transformation, with 10 AluK 58BW windows, 5 AluK BSC94 sliding patio doors and one AluK 58BD resi door in RAL 9005 Jet Black fabricated and installed by Unique.
In fact, the windows and doors were so fundamental to the success of the project that presenter Mark Millar was shown visiting Unique Window Systems’ Leicester factory to see the frames being fabricated and discussing the design and specification with Production Manager Mir Patel.
The priority for the owners was to bring the maximum amount of light into their new home so they wanted contemporary slim sightlines and they wanted to frame the countryside views wherever possible with oversized 2.5m high sliders in several places – including some opening out onto a balcony and hot tub.
They were also concerned about noise levels from a nearby railway line, so Unique Window Systems ensured that all the frames were fitted acoustic trickle vents and fabricated with laminated glass on the outside of the sealed unit and toughened glass on the inside to achieve a better dB acoustic rating.
Unique Window Systems won the contract for the project from Scope Construction who were the main contractors. Mir Patel explained: “We have worked closely with Scope for several years and were first choice for this project because of our track record with them and the fact that our range of AluK products fitted the design brief so perfectly. We advised on the specification and the colour, with the Jet Black finish inside and out really adding to the contemporary look and feel of the property.
“They trusted us to deliver an expert installation and several of our team also featured onsite during the episode installing and inspecting the windows and doors.”
