This Gloucestershire barn showcases how AluK’s slimline aluminium systems can transform traditional properties, delivering beauty, efficiency, and low maintenance.
Replacing varnished timber windows and doors in a traditional style barn conversion with slimline aluminium doors in a contemporary black finish was a bold choice. But it paid off handsomely for the owners of this Gloucestershire home, where AluK’s 58BW HI and 58BD HI windows and doors have helped to transform its appearance.
The owners of the barn knew that their timber windows were in need of expensive maintenance and repair, and judged that replacing them with virtually maintenance free aluminium would be a better long term investment.
And the results speak for themselves. Visually, the barn now harmonises beautifully with the contemporary extension built at the side and, when it comes to efficiency, the AluK HI windows and doors with impressive U-Values of just 1.4 are delivering improved thermal performance.
The owners said: “As soon as the windows started to go in, we knew we’d made the right choice. Whilst much of our decision making was around the aesthetics, we were also conscious that we wanted to achieve the best thermal performance we could afford, especially taking into account the large areas of glass in our home. CDW Systems gave us great advice throughout and delivered an outstanding service.”
The AluK windows and doors were fabricated by Gloucester based CDW Systems who had impressed the owners of the property on several projects in the past. They were installed by the company’s specialist installation division Clearway Doors & Windows based in Cheltenham.
Jeremy Phillips, the company’s managing director commented: “This was a project which perfectly showcased just how well aluminium can be used in a traditional setting. We made sure that two large, glazed facades on the front and rear of the barn replicated the original timber design, but obviously the slimmer sightlines of the aluminium mean there is now more light coming in – and even better views looking out.”
16 windows in AluK’s 58BW HI system were installed in the Gloucestershire barn, as well as one single and one set of double doors in AluK’s 58BD HI system.
