A 1980s Classic Brought up to Date

Surrey

Like many 1980s homes, this 3500 sq ft Surrey property was built with timber double glazed windows throughout and aluminium sliding doors in timber outer frames in the rooms overlooking the garden.

Now, after the original owners passed away and the property was sold for the first time in more than 30 years, it has undergone a contemporary refurbishment, with the latest high performance AluK aluminium windows and sliding doors fitted to replace the timber originals.

The priority for the new owners in choosing the replacement windows and doors was to make their new home light and bright, while improving its energy efficiency and overall security. Nick Perrin from A.S. Ashcroft who was managing the refurbishment project, recommended AluK windows and doors from Capital Windows, and the results are impressive.

Four sets of AluK BSC94 two, three and four pane inline sliding doors have been fitted in the downstairs living areas, as well as AluK 58BW windows in the kitchen and first floor. All are finished in white on the inside and out for timeless appeal.

The owners are understandably delighted: “We liked the slim sightlines of the AluK frames paired with contemporary hardware. The new windows and doors frame the garden perfectly; the doors open effortlessly with smooth rollers, and they provide an ideal backdrop for all the internal refurb work and decoration which has been done.

“Capital Windows did a great job – they gave us good advice on everything from the glass specification to the hardware, delivered promptly and fitted all the frames in just two days with no hassle.”

The couple had lived in a rented property during the refurbishment which had bifold doors fitted and while they liked the inside/outside feel which they created during the peak of summer, they felt that sliders were a more practical all-year-round choice for their new home. They also liked the fact that, with the AluK sliding doors, there was a smaller frame to glass ratio to make the most of their south facing garden views.

They added: “The finished result is everything we had hoped for – we have the quality feel we wanted, reassuring levels of PAS24 accredited security, and the kind of energy performance which will hopefully keep our energy bills in check.”
