Wargrave Extension Highlights the Strength of AluK’s 58BW System in Contemporary Residential Design

AluK’s 58BW aluminium window system has played a key role in the transformation of a traditional semi-detached home in Wargrave, Berkshire, into a modern, light-filled family space.

Working in partnership with fabricator Arkay Windows, AluK supplied its 58BW system as part of a high-specification glazing package installed by Thames Valley Window Company, alongside Absolute Architecture and Lindum Construction.

The project involved replacing a dated conservatory with a striking single-storey gable extension designed to maximise natural light while respecting the character of the original property.

System Selection: Performance and Aesthetics

The AluK 58BW system was specified throughout the extension in a black matt RAL 9005 finish, complementing the bold external cladding and contemporary glazing design.

For the architect and contractor, the 58BW system offered:

  • Slim, contemporary sightlines
  • Polyamide thermal break technology
  • U-values supporting Part L compliance
  • PAS24 security performance
  • Fabrication efficiency and installation reliability

In a design heavily driven by glazing, achieving the right balance between transparency and performance was critical. The 58BW system enabled large glazed areas while maintaining thermal efficiency and structural integrity.

Supporting High-Glazing Design

The extension incorporates expansive glazing elements to create strong visual links between the interior and garden. AluK’s 58BW windows provide consistency across fixed and opening elements, ensuring clean sightlines and cohesive detailing throughout the scheme.

Thermally broken aluminium profiles help reduce heat transfer, supporting year-round comfort in a space where maximising daylight was a primary objective.

Fabricator Collaboration

Close collaboration between AluK and Arkay Windows ensured the system was fabricated to precise specification and delivered on programme. Early engagement with the project team helped coordinate the aluminium package within the wider glazing design, supporting efficient installation on site.

The Result

The completed extension demonstrates how AluK’s 58BW system continues to provide a robust, specification-ready solution for residential refurbishment and extension projects.

By combining refined aesthetics, proven thermal performance and dependable fabrication, the system helped deliver:

  • Increased natural light
  • Enhanced energy efficiency
  • Modern security compliance
  • Long-term durability

For fabricators, installers and specifiers, this Wargrave project highlights the versatility of the 58BW platform in contemporary residential applications where performance and design must work together seamlessly.
