AluK’s SL52 curtain walling system and BSF70 bifold doors featured on First Dates Hotel were used in a private Penarth home, not an actual hotel. The property’s rear was remodelled with a double-height glazed façade, fabricated by Fentrade and installed by Capital uPVC. Using SL52 for its sleek design, performance, and durability, and BSF70 bifolds framed in RAL7016 anthracite grey, the project transformed the home’s look with a striking, modern finish.
Fans of First Dates Hotel might just have spotted our SL52 curtain walling system and BSF70 bifolds providing the perfect backdrop for the glamorous Channel 4 dating show.
The property isn’t actually a hotel though – it’s a stunning private home in Penarth, near Cardiff, which was completely refurbished using AluK products fabricated and supplied by our customer Fentrade.
The owners of the property wanted to remodel the rear of the property to provide a double height glazed façade with a spectacular view of the landscaped gardens and family swimming pool, and our capped SL52 curtain walling solution proved the ideal solution.
SL52 is a CWCT Sequence B tested curtain walling system with consistent 50mm sightlines and the option for large box sections offering exactly the sleek, contemporary aesthetics that the owners wanted. It also achieves the wind, water and air permeability performance required, while providing impressive thermal performance.
More than 8m wide and 5.5m high with a 1.2m return, the curtain walling in the property was fabricated by Fentrade and installed by their long term customer Capital uPVC in collaboration with our technical team. They held meetings at our Chepstow HQ to design the façade together and agree the best way to integrate a set of four panel BSF70 bifolds and a side entrance door. They opted to install a separate steel portal frame for the bifold to ensure there would be no risk of deflection.
The result is stunning, and the rear of the property has been totally transformed with windows also installed in our 58BW system and further sets of BSF70 bifolds. All the AluK frames were finished at our state of the art in house paint facility in a RAL7016 anthracite grey marine grade powder coated finish, which can easily withstand the demands of Penarth’s coastal location.
